Derrick Hoey, trainer of super welterweight Clarence “Sonny Bono” Taylor was shot and killed on Sunday morning in Delaware. Aside from training Bono, Hoey was known as a community activist and mentor to the youth in his neighborhood. Below is a detailed piece touching on this tragic news and the life of Derrick Hoey. Reports have spread that a proposed rematch between Winky Wright and Jermaine Taylor is now off the table. Apparently, the two sides had problems coming to an agreement at the negotiation table. Not it seems that a potentential deal has been struck for Winky Wright to face Paul Williams on HBO World Championship Boxing sometime in April. (more…)

On Saturday in Zurich, Switzerland, Evander Holyfield was absolutely robbed of a decision against Heavyweight titlist, Nikolay Valuev. Although many had hoped for Holyfield’s retirement no matter what the decision, Holyfield put on a spirited performance for a 46 year old and simply didn’t deserve the treatment he received. (more…)

It appears that a proposed mega fight between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton is becoming a reality. Talks have begun for the two boxing superstars to face each other on May 2, 2009. It appears that the fight would take place at 140 pounds in Las Vegas.

There is strong word in the boxing world that Winky Wright may be facing Jermain Taylor in a rematch in the 1st quarter of 2009. Taylor was penciled in to face WBC Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch, but apparently HBO does not want to approve the fight. Froch, who is a good fighter, could possibly be overlooked as his name simply isn’t big enough in the states. In steps Winky Wright.

HOLLYWOOD, FL – It takes a lot to get Glen Johnson angry, but when he heard that a March 14th rematch between Chad Dawson and Antonio Tarver had been finalized, he couldn’t hold back his feelings. “This is a disgrace to the sport,” said Johnson, the former light heavyweight champ who is currently the most avoided man in boxing. “Didn’t anyone watch the first fight? Do they think anything different will happen the second time around? HBO should have put this fight on a month earlier, so it could have been the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre Part Two.”
