On Saturday night, Andre Berto passed the biggest test of his career by defeating Luis Collazo by close decision. The fight action packed fight had great ebb and flow that gave the paying crowd in Biloxi their money’s worth and then some.

Collozo gained the upper hand early by landing a straight left hand that hurt Berto and sent him staggering back into the ropes. Berto was able to maintain his composure and finish the round strong whi le avoid being put on the canvas.

The fight remained a close affair with both men tiring at times throughout the night. During the middle rounds, Berto began to work Collazo to the body which appeared to take a toll on the New Yorker’s energy and stamina. Collazo was slowly starting to watch the momentum swing Berto’s way as he appeared to be the busier fighter who was gaining his second wind down the stretch. However, Collazo showed his heart, picked up the pace and contined give Berto the toughest fight of his career.

As the championship rounds neared, the fight appeared to be up for grabs with both corners stressing to their fighters that they must finish strong. Berto appeared to have a big 12th round by banging Collazo to the body and pushing himself to outwork Collazo who gave it as good as he got it. In the end, the judges final scores were 116-111, 114-113, & 114-113 all in favor of Andre Berto. With the win, Berto’s record improves to 24-0 while Collazo’s drops to 29-4.
