(KNOCKOUT NATION – JANUARY 25, 2009)

It was Bernard Hopkins vs. Kelly Pavlik all over again as HBO featured an old lion viewed as the underdog against the more youthful fighter who is in the prime of his career. Similar to the Hopkins vs. Pavlik fight, the old lion passed the test with flying colors. On Saturday night, in front of an electric, sold Staples Center crowd, Shane Mosley stopped Antonio Margarito by TKO with 23 seconds left of the 9th round. The crowd appeared to be a pro Margarito crowd as Mosley was flooded with a chorus of “BOOS” as he made his way to the ring. On the other hand, Margarito was greeted with a warrior’s welcome as he made his way to center stage. Continue reading

(KNOCKOUT NATION – JANUARY 12, 2009) A proposed bout between Manny Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton may be off as negotiations have begun to break down.

Talks have slowed because Pacquiao seeks a 60% split and Hatton’s team opposes the proposition, according to Philippine Broadcasting Station ABS-CBN.

Team Pacquiao feels in light of his domination of Oscar De La Hoya, their man is the bigger draw, Ricky Hatton’s squad says their guy brings the loyal British following.

Franklin “Geng” Gacal, Pacquiao’s lawyer, said the fight will not happen if they don’t garner 60% of the purse.

“We have informed Bob Arum that we are not signing the contract. Manny is not contented with what is laid on the table. If the figures won’t move, we will look for another [challenger],” Gacal said.
In related news, Floyd Mayweather Jr’s has contacted Pacquiao’s team, which may set of the fan’s fight.

“Mayweather’s camp is making an appeal, they’re talking to us. They’ve talked to my attorney and told him that they’re interested in the fight so we’re listening to them,” Pacquiao told ABS-CBN.

Max Kellerman is one of the most respected boxing analysts, but most of us know he has a past rooted in Hip-Hop. Check out a video treat called “Young Man Rumble” with Max and his man Sam. Max had skills!

Max & Sam came and left so fast that nobody really noticed them after they were signed to Columbia Records in 1994. But, we’ll alway like Max the commentator with a decidedly Hip-Hop swagger!

50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather had a good friendship going and then…the fight.

50 Cent recently talked to ESPN about the incident and suggested that the smaller Mayweather attacked him first.

Yeah, we got into a little scrap, a little boxing match,” 50 Cent told the sports network. “Well, it wasn’t really much of a boxing match because he hit me in the back of my ear. He’s so fast, he’s just so fast. The thing about it is, everyone who is around him works for him. And for a second, he tried to talk to me like I was one of the people working for him. He tried to tell me what to do so I grabbed him. I snatched his little ass up then he hit me and was like ‘What’s wrong with you?’ We were mad for a second, but then everything went back to normal.”

He was going to do the match in WWE at Wrestlemania and he started telling everyone that I was going to be there. So everyone got all excited and started asking me if I was going to come, and I was like, ‘If you’re really getting $20 million for this, then give me some money.’ He was sitting there with a million dollars cash in a bag, and he kept telling me he was going to get me money for appearing, but I was like ‘No, give me some of that money right there.’ He had one million dollars in the bag, it was physically right in front of me, so why should I have to wait to get paid? Just give me that money right there. He wasn’t with it, and that’s how it all started.
